Best Buddies, Not Blood Buddies
Page 1: The new school year has just begun, so best friends, Joey and Diana, wanted to have some fun.
The school built a new playground for the new school year.
All of the kids wanted to go out and play in the bright, shining sun.
Page 2: The students unpacked their bags and were ready to start the day.
Math and spelling were not what they had in mind.
All of the children wanted to go out and play.
Page 3: Ms. Sanchez, their teacher, said "children get to work!"
All they could think about was the new playground
All of the children wore frowns, not smirks.
Page 4: Diana and Joey could not wait for recess to come around
The whistle blew so they could go outside, what a wonderful sound!
They would finally be able to play on the new playground
Page 5: "Yay, it's time to go," the children exclaimed.
"Let's go on the monkey bars first," Diana said.
"We can reach the bars this year; they are really low"
Page 6: Joey and Diana raced over to the monkey bars.
Joey went first but did not get far.
He missed the jump and fell to the ground with a big fall.
Page 7: Diana ran over and screamed "Joey what's wrong?"
Joey laid on the floor with a scrape on his arm.
Then, all the children came running along.
Page 8: "He is bleeding, what do we do," Diana asked.
"Help, help! Somebody save Joey!"
Joey's great fall gave him a big black and blue.
Page 9: The blood kept flowing drip, drop.
Just as Diana reached to touch the blood
Ms. Sanchez yelled " Everyone Stop!"
Page 10: "Nobody touch him! Diana, walk him to the nurse!"
All of the children ran to the door and tried to flood in.
"Children, Children; let Joey go first."
Page 11: On their journey to the nurse, Joey and Diana walked hand in hand.
The Ms. Fluddle's office was far away from the playground and Joey began to cry.
Diana felt very, very bad.
Page 12: Diana wanted to help Joey so she touched his cut.
When Diana felt his cut, Joey let out a "yelp!"
Diana said,"Joey, what...what?"
Page 13: "Diana that hurt! Why did you touch me," Joey exclaimed.
"I'm sorry Joey! I didn't mean to!"
"We're almost at the nurses office, you will see"
Page 14: Joey and Diana walked into the nurse's office.
Joey showed Ms.Fluddle his arm.
"Joey, how did you do this?"
Page 15: "I fell off the monkey bars; it hurt really bad."
"Did anyone touch the cut," Ms.Fluddle asked.
"On the way to your office, Diana had"
Page 16: "Don't you know not to touch blood or cuts," Ms.Fluddle exclaimed.
"No, I was just trying to help!"
Ms.Fluddle was going nuts.
Page 17: "Go wash your hands, right away," Ms.Fluddle demanded.
"But what did i do wrong," Diana pleaded.
"Go wash your hands, now!" Diana obeyed.
Page 18: Ms.Fluddle put on her gloves so she could care for the cut on Joey's arm.
"Please don't touch it," Joey begged.
"Don't worry Joey, I won't do you any harm."
Page 19: Diana came back from washing her hands, with a guilty look on her face.
"Ms. Fluddle, what did I do wrong?"
"Diana, can you please hand me a bandage from that case?"
Page 20: Ms.Fluddle wrapped up Joey's arm. "Diana, Joey, please sit down.
Diana, I did not mean to hurt your feelings, but you may never touch blood or cuts..
I guess your teacher did not teach you about HIV, so do not frown"
Page 21: "I'm sorry Ms. Fluddle, I will never touch a cut." Joey and Diana stood up to leave and go back to class.
Ms.Fluddle said goodbye and behind the children, the door shut.
Page 22: "What are we going to do? The children need to learn!" Ms. Fluddle said to herself. How do they not know about the risks of touching blood and HIV? This lesson must be heard!"
Page 23:Ms.Fluddle rushed down to the principal's office to discuss this important matter. "Mr. Wallace, these kids have no knowledge about HIV and the risks of touching blood." Mr. Wallace and Ms. Fluddle sat in the office and talked for awhile; the students had their ears pressed to the door trying to listen
to the chatter.
Page 24:Soon their discussion was finished and they told the kids that tomorrow there will be a surprise. Mr. Wallace said, "We will have what is called an assembly and it is a very important thing to do.
When the assembly is over you all will be very wise."
Page 25: The next day came and the kids were very excited. The students in the school piled into the auditorium.
The assembly was about to begin and and all of the children were delighted.
Page 26: A doctor came to talk to the students about HIV and blood sharing.
All of the students learned the many dangers of blood sharing and some important facts about HIV.
"Now I understand why I wasn't suppose to touch your cut," Diana whispered to Joey. The focus of the students where on the doctor; no ones eyes were wandering or glaring.
Page 27: The doctor finished his speech and the children applauded, their eyes were filled with joy.
Most students understood the meaning of the assembly, but some students were confused and worried.
" I'm scared," shouted a boy.
Page 28: The students walked back to the classroom in an orderly fashion.
One child in the classroom had a grandmother who was HIV Positive.
Now that the students in the class understood the meaning of HIV, they all showed great compassion.
Page 29: The students still enjoyed playing on the playground.
They were careful and had their new facts about HIV stored in mind.
Now that the students were more cautious, drip drop will never be a sound.
