1.On a bright, sunny day at Washington Elementary School, in April, all of the kids were outside for recess. (Playground with kids) 2.Mark is in third grade. He has red hair and glasses, and he is very short for his age. He is on the swing, talking and laughing with his best friend Jake. (Mark is on the swing, next to him is Jake) 3.Billy, a fourth grader in the school, that is much bigger than Mark, pushes him off so he can swing.(Billy's hands are out like he is pushing Mark, Mark is on ground) 4.When Mark gets up, he sees that his knee is scraped from falling off the swing. "Ouch!" says Mark. "You made me scrape my knee!" Mark starts to cry and runs inside.(Mark sitting up looking at the cut on his knee) 5. "What happened?" asks Miss Jones. "I scraped my knee." says Mark. "Wash your hands with soap and water, so the germs don't spread." Miss Jones says. She cleans out the cut and puts a band-aid on it.(Mark in the Nurse office. Ms Jones bending down, putting on the band-aid) 6."Stay inside for the rest of recess, please." Miss Jones tells Mark. "Ok. I will." says Mark. Mark sits down on the window ledge right inside the doors to the playground.( Mark sitting inside next to a window, outside the window is the playground)
7. Mr.Smith sees Mark sitting inside during recess and sits next to him. "Why aren't you outside on the playground Mark? Did someone hurt you? I see that you scraped your knee." "No, I just fell," Mark lied.(Mr.Smith standing next to Mark,with his arm on his shoulder)
8."What happened to your knee?" Mark's mother asks when he gets home. "I fell off the swing," Mark lied again.(Mom sitting next to him on the couch) 9.The next day, Mark is nervous to go back on the playground during recess. He doesn't want BIlly to hurt him again.(Mark sitting inside next to a window,outside the window is the playground.)
10.On the playground, he tries to avoid seeing Billy, but when he goes down the slide, he bumps into him. (Mark is at the slide, BIlly is there)
11."I can't believe you went to the nurse yesterday just because you scraped your knee. You are such a baby!" says Billy.( Billy pointing at Mark)
12."I'm not a baby, I was bleeding and it hurt. You are a meanie Billy!"( Mark yelling Billy) 13. Billy gets angry at Mark and pushes him to the ground.( Mark is on the ground, Billy standing next to him) 14.Mark hits Billy back.(Mark hitting Billy) 15.Billy takes Marks glasses of his face, puts them on the ground, and steps on them.(Broken glasses on the ground) 16.Mark gets so upset that he starts to cry and runs inside.(Mark running inside) 17.This time when Mr. Smith asks what happened, Mark says "Billy has been bullying me." "In our school, we have no tolerance for bullying. Let's go talk to him." says Mr. Smith. (Mr.Smith standing next to Mark) 18.They both go outside together and walk over to Billy. "Billy, you are not allowed to hurt other kids, physically or emotionally. It is not nice, and it can make kids scared and very upset, just like Mark is. Bullying is not tolerated here at Washington." Mr. Smith says.( Mark and Mr.Smith standing next to Billy)
19.First Billy denies bullying Mark. "I didn't do it," he said.(Mark is angry)
20."He has called me names and pushed me and he broke my glasses. He was also the one that made me scrape my knee. He pushed me off the swing." says Mark." "Fine, I was bullying him," Billy says looking at the ground. (Mark holding the glasses, Billy is sad) 21. "I got in trouble on the bus this morning and I was angry. Mark was the first person I saw when I got off the bus, so I decided to take my anger out on him, and when he fought me back I got even angrier." Billy says. (Billy thinking of the school bus,flashback) 22."Billy, no matter what, you must NEVER hurt anyone. You must find a safer and healthier way to let out your anger." Mr. Smith replies.(Mr.Smith kneeling down,next to Billy) 23. "Mark you should never fight back when you get bullied, it will only make things worse. You must immediately go for help." says Mr. Smith.(Mr.Smith kneeling down,next to Mark)
24."Billy please apologize for what you did to Mark. You had no right to bully him." says Mr. Smith. (Billy saying sorry,hands out, mouth open) (Mark saying sorry, hands out, mouth open). 25. "I'm sorry for hitting you back Billy." Mark apologizes.(Mark saying sorry, hands out, mouth open).
26.Billy has started karate lessons to manage his anger. He has learned that being a bully won't solve any of his problems.(Billy at Karate Lessons, Punching a bag) 27.Now, whenever someone is treating him wrong, Mark understands to go to an adult right away for help and to never fightback.(Mark smiling)
